Low-cost Internet services, computers to low-income families

10/04/2011  Connecting America: The National Broadband Plan, unveiled March 16, 2010, is a FCC (Federal Communications Commission) plan which deals with improving broadband Internet access throughout the United States.  Part of the plan, Comcast's program Internet Essentials, began at the start of the school year and is available in 39 states, offers Internet service for a monthly fee of $9.95 plus tax to families that have at least one child in the National School Free Lunch Program.   AT&T's plan offers similar services through the nonprofit organization, One Economy, which has enabled eligible families to receive free and affordable broadband access, plus the related training that enable them to improve their lives.
